    That's a good observation. Theme parks here in Orlando raise the prices once Disney raises their prices. It's the opposite of lowering prices to beat the other guy. I do video editing and video production and some people in my market do not know the value of quality video editing because so many people lower their prices.

    Wait a minute. The Margin is on what you paid for it NOT what you sell it for. It is 100% on the $10 item you sold for $20. I'm the one with the MBA from USC.

    • @bradflynnofficial
      @bradflynnofficial Рік тому

      Margin is what you keep as a % of sale price. Mark up is A % of the cost of goods price that you add to it to get the sale price.

    Instead of an expense coming out of Cash as, say, a check you write, it is coming out of the Asset as depreciation.

    • @bradflynnofficial
      @bradflynnofficial 2 роки тому

      That’s correct and appears as an expense on P&L which reduces profit and tax liability, without an actual cash movement.

    Hi Brad - For a bar or restaurant business, would the wages of the bartenders and service staff go in Cost of Sales or Opex? I could see an argument for both. They are essential to selling drinks and if I close my doors for a day then they wouldn't get paid, so I'm swaying on the side of COGS. What do you think? Thanks!

    • @bradflynnofficial
      @bradflynnofficial 2 роки тому

      Sorry for the delay in reply. Great question, I have clients in this industry so will double check what they do. I suspect opex is where they put wages. However if you did put these expenses in cogs and could tie an individuals wages to the sales they make, you could workout your most profitable worker and also set incentives.

    hey can you please tell me where can I find depreciation on the income statement? Is it the same as "asset impairments" or what is it called on that statement? thank you

    • @bradflynnofficial
      @bradflynnofficial 2 роки тому

      Hey Ivan, depreciation is usually put on to the income statement by the accountant, when they are preparing tax returns. So they may not have done that yet. Depending on the country depreciation is sometimes called other things, but asset impairment is not one i have heard of. Hope that helps, here is a link to a video i did a while back on depreciation ua-cam.com/video/1oUzn4DOR2I/v-deo.html

      @@bradflynnofficial Hey, thanks for your quick response. I saw that video already. What I mean is the income statements of a company's filings from sec.gov site. Like from 10K and 10Q reports.

    • @bradflynnofficial
      @bradflynnofficial 2 роки тому

      Ah, check the notes section of the reports/statements for the relevant company, they sometimes mention that depreciation and the like are included but not itemised or listed as line items.

    My question is around if you depreciate the asset by 100%. Can you still value it at 100% of its original cost in assets if you sell the business?

    • @bradflynnofficial

      Great question, when it comes to the sale of a business, like the dale of anything, ultimately it comes down to a negotiation between parties, regardless of what the financial statements say.
